Chernarus, 2024
World Situation
Chernarus, officially the Republic of Chernarus, is a country located in the Green Sea region, neighboured by Russia to the North (separated by the Black Mountains) and Takistan to the West. After breaking off from the communist bloc and forming its own republic, Chernarus was welcomed and recognized as a power in 1991. In the following years both sides of the Cold War (the US and Russia) took interest in this country and started funding and developing various projects. In late 2014, due to causes yet unreleased, a viral outbreak happened in the North-Eastern region of the country. Reports of people losing their minds, attacking eachother and various bandits and rebels making their moves drowned the radio waves. The local military there was quickly overrun by the chaos, but with the joint help of global powers the situation was contained just as fast as it happened. Walls were built up, checkpoints were set up and almost every military in the world got involved in the blockade. The spread of this outbreak was stopped, and no-one was getting in our out of the region, including the survivors left behind along with the mutant threat. Due to the risk of global contamination, no rescue attempts were made besides the initial evacuation.
You are part of the CDF Paratroopers regiment stationed at Klen Hill FOB when the outbreak happens. Unfortunately , you fail to get to the extraction zone and are left behind. Dissapointed, frightened and with no hope your platoon marches back to Klen Hill. You figured you would be safe up there, at the top of the hill, behind strong defenses and sitting on stockpiles of supplies. Someone was bound to try and recover you. You were very wrong. Hours after reality settled in, group after group of civilians that failed to evacuate would turn up to your doorstep seeking shelter. Soon the FOB was at maximum capacity, and people had to be turned away. Unfortunately, that didn't sit well with some, who ganged together and came back with weapons, mounting reckless and suicidal assaults on Klen FOB. This, coupled with the hordes of zombies attracted by the gunfire, was almost your end. Days of fighting followed.
14th November 2014, CDF Main Airbase, Quarantine Zone
Situation 1 week after the outbreak
You've suffered heavy casualties since returning to the FOB. Your numbers dwindled from 70 to around 30, and any civilians you took in ended up dead in the crossfire. Supplies are starting to run out, the base is falling apart, the long range radios stopped working and you're not sure if you will survive the next battle. Command decides that it's time to abandon the FOB. Maintaining the military decorum, an official plan is put in motion, Operation Beyond Recognition, with two goals in mind. Short term, relocating from Klen Hill to another suitable base in the region and surviving day to day. You will need to gather ammunition, medical, food, utility and anything useful, along with potential survivors willing to join you in order to form a thriving and self sufficient community in this wasteland, capable of defending itself. Long term, getting out of this hell-hole. With all ways out guarded and blocked by massive armies, shooting anyone that gets close to the walls on sight, you will need to formulate a plan to escape without ending up dead. For now, whatever is beyond the walls and the situation outside the quarantine zone is unknown to you, so the first hoop is finding a functional long range radio.
ZEUS NOTE - ANY CHOICES YOU MAKE WILL AFFECT THE NEXT MISSION AND THE ENDING YOU GET
Mission Briefing
You are currently at FOB Klen, or what is left of it. Your current objective is the short term survival. You've managed to put together some basic loadouts with the remaining supplies at the FOB. Command has decided to move out North, torwards Krasnostav and the Airfield, the closest known military base. The quarantine zone is large, and it is uncertain what bases or facilities in the area are suitable for you, so you will need to investigate. There is bound to be a map or some sort of information at the Airfield. In the worst case scenario there must at least be some supplies. It cannot be estimated what the future of this mission holds for you until you identify another place to make your home. However, some things are certain. You do not have any official support besides what you procure or set up platoon-wise. It would be wise to maintain and utilize your military training and discipline, it's the only thing that has kept you alive so far. You will have to adapt your tactics to combat both ''zombies'' and other human groups hostile to you. And the obvious, you should avoid getting bitten by the mutants.
Threat report
ZEUS NOTE - CLARIFICATION, YOU ARE FIGHTING BOTH HUMANS AND ZOMBIES
In short, a clusterfuck. It is unknown which human groups will be hostile or friendly torwards you, and moreover what intent they have. As far as we know and can speculate, there are various groups of survivors united under different goals and beliefs. If movies and books taught us anything, expect bandit groups, various rebels, survivors with different rules and views, in the best case scenario other members of the military which should be friendly to you. On top of this, you have the obvious mutant threat(yes, surprise, it's an apocalypse), which targets the closest human, so maybe you can use this third party to your advantage. The infection seems to spread through bites, but we are not 100% sure of this. Not much else is known about the mutants or infected, whatever you choose to call them, as we haven't had much time to study them or their behaviour. Due to this clusterfuck, the RoE is left up to you, not like there's anyone to enforce it. Team up or murder the group of survivors in front of you? Your call, but remember, you still represent the CDF army and people may look up to you.
Mission Objectives
Overarching objectives
- Main Obj. Alpha - Find and secure a suitable base
You've had no choice but to abandon FOB Klen. You will need to look for information or maybe even stumble across another suitable base to call home. On top of that, you will need to secure and fortify the base. Potential candidates should be - easy to defend, as intact as possible, capable of housing 30 men or more, preferably not an obvious location that anyone can find. - Main Obj. Bravo - Find supplies
To survive you need food, water, ammo, medical and so on - supplies. It's been a week since the outbreak so most places will be picked clean (this is my way of saying don't be a loot freak as you won't find stuff hidden in random shacks, look in obvious places). Trade, kill, steal, loot, it's up to you how you get the supplies.
Specific objectives
- Objective 1 - Investigate Krasnostav
Composed of a small town and a joint military-civilian airbase, and also in your vicinity, this seems like the place to start your search. Look for any official writings, maps, etc. regarding military bases and installations in Chernarus, or any information that could help with objectives Alpha and Bravo. In short, find INTEL. - Objective 2 - Krasnostav Supermarket
There is a supermarket in Krasnostav from where your quartermaster would buy food and water. Hopefully, if the place hasn't been picked clean, you can find something there worth your time. - Objective 3 - Find transportation
Unfortunately, all vehicles were lost in the recent battles, and we do not have the time or supplies to get them running again. During your search you will need to keep an eye out for ways of transportation, something to fit 20-30 people and any supplies you decide to carry.
