Operation Espada de Honor

Operation Espada de Honor

General Situation
23rd of March 2012, Colombia

The Colombian internal conflict began on May 27, 1964, and is a low-intensity asymmetric war between the government of Colombia(BLUFOR, so YOUR SIDE), far-right paramilitary groups and crime syndicates, and far-left guerrilla groups, fighting each other to increase their influence in Colombian territory. Since the turn of the third millennium, this conflict became even more violent, with major offensives launched from both sides. With at least 460 members of the security forces (Colombian govt.) killed and around 2000 wounded by the FARC in 2010 (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia–People's Army, one of the main belligerents in the conflict), and other deaths claimed by the ELN + neo-paramilitary groups such as Los Rastrojos and Aguilas Negras,  the Colombian Government saw a need to increase its military presence and step up its armed offensive. For the simplicity of the briefing, any paramilitary, crime syndicates or groups, so OPFOR, will be referred to as ''REBELS''. In 2012, the Colombia Military launched The Espada de Honor War Plan, an aggressive counterinsurgency strategy that aimed to dismantle the REBEL structure, both militarily and financially. It targeted REBEL leadership, focusing on eliminating the 15 most powerful economic and military fronts. This is where your mission takes place.

Operation Situation

As part of Espada de Honor, National Intelligence Directorate has worked overtime to try and gain leads on REBEL leadership so they can be taken out. Yesterday (22nd of March), around evening, one of their informants delivered, exposing the believed location of Rodrigo Londoño (Timoleón Jiménez or Timochenko), known for his strategic and military expertise which got the REBELs where they are now. The National Colombian Army Command quickly put a plan in motion to capture,Timochenko alive. Being close to his possible position, you've been assigned to this operation. Before Dawn, a task force of Colombian SOFs, Lanceros, will stealthily infiltrate the village of Arjona and capture the commander. Your role will be to provide transport out of the AO.

Also, just in case you were wondering what Timochenko looks like, he has a public Facebook profile...

Mission Briefing

At dawn, you will mount up in the newly imported Titus MRAPs and head toward the AO. The Lanceros have been instructed to hike South from Arjona once they have the package and rendezvous with you in Ovejas. Command is unsure how the situation will develop during the operation, but it was agreed to maintain a low military presence prior to the operation so as not to scare the package into hiding.  You and the Lanceros will be the only elements actively operating in the AO, with QRFs on standby, should you encounter hostiles during infiltration or exfiltration.  Once you've extracted the package back to base, you will rearm and prepare to pursue any leads revealed after interrogation. Resupply will not be possible during the operation, so pack essentials and more in the Titus, CAS is available, but limited, ROE is do not fire unless fired upon.

Threat Report

The REBELs are a mostly infantry force, with motorized capabilities. The chain of command is well structured, with multiple small groups operating in synchronization. They've been noted to use guerilla tactics while fighting us. Some bomber attacks are recorded as well, although rare. Motorized capabilities are severely limited, mainly civilian transports, some technicals or improvised vehicles, nothing more. Air wing is mostly civilian drug planes, uninvolved in military actions. HQ expects a well organized, technologically inferior foe, who will fight dirty.

Mission Objectives
  1. Rendezvous with the Lanceros
The Lanceros managed to capture Timochenko(Timoleón Jiménez), an important officer for the REBELs. WE NEED HIM ALIVE for interrogation and propaganda. All you need to do is meet up with the Lanceros in Ovejas, pick them up along with the package and exfiltrate from the AO before it gets too hot.
  2. Preserve equipment and casualties
We cannot allow any of our equipment to fall in the hands of the enemy. Do your best to avoid leaving vehicles, ammo crates and the likes behind. If absolutely necessary, as a last resort, you may destroy your equipment if you cannot bring it with you. Any fallen soldiers on our side MUST be placed in body bags, and, if the situation allows it, loaded into a vehicle for transportation. (edited)
