Situation Update: Project Phoenix
Late last year, a special task force working for American Pharmaceutical Industries [A.P.I.] recovered partial data from a laboratory working on a cure for the Upsilon variant of the Covid ’21 strand. Unfortunately, operatives from the Trident International Business Group’s Private Military Company sabotaged the laboratory prior to retrieval, leading to a large amount of data being lost.
The sabotage event also resulted in a mutation occurring in the cadaver of Patient Zero leading to a containment breach incident. [For more details, please refer to the original operation documentation]
Additionally, an artefact was retrieved from an outpost in the Sahara Desert. Six bodies from the Trident PMC branch’s special operations unit were discovered here, alongside an open hard case containing a rock which we now refer to as Object 24. Upon investigation, the bodies' skin had become sand-like and crumbled whenever pressure was applied. Special measures were required to retrieve the bodies. Recovered alongside Object 24 and the corpses were a collection of Project Phoenix files and a journal from one of the researchers who was very insistent on Object 24’s case remaining sealed.
Situation Update: Project Lazarus
A.P.I. ordered the transferal of all Project Phoenix data and related articles to their artificial island, Lazarus, for further research and testing. Although the Upsilon virus has been contained, and Trident I.B.G.’s pharmaceutical branch released an effective vaccine to the common market, A.P.I. wished to pursue the research and connect the missing dots between Object 24, Project Phoenix and the potential bio-weapon constructed from an airborne strain of the virus.
The researchers successfully recreated the Patient Zero mutations following the sabotage incident and concluded that the virus is the result of mutations occurring in zombie fungus. The spores latch onto and consume brain cells and then spread to other potential hosts via proximity, air particles or direct entry through open wounds.
Tests were also conducted to investigate how the virus affects soil and plant matter. The contaminated ground proved inconclusive on the subject. Although, an anomaly of great importance occurred in the region after Object 24 made contact with the soil sample.
Unfortunately, Lazarus entered lockdown prior to further testing being conducted due to a researcher, who had unknowingly become a carrier, leaving the secure facility and returning to the residential district for rest one evening.
Operation Exorcist
Several recovery teams are being dispatched to collect the data from both sites and recover Object 24. Additional protection will be provided due to presumed hostility from infected residents.
The co-pilot from the investigation team, sent to confirm the situation on Lazarus, received a gunshot wound prior to taking off leading us to believe some of the island's occupants may still be unaffected by the virus. However, they may not be allowed to leave due to the risk of contagion. Dispatch them if they pose a threat or attempt to make an exit from the island. The same applies to any members of Operation Exorcist who become exposed.
