28th May 2016 - Malden, Mediterranean Sea
101st Airborne, combined with 2nd MEU, has been tasked with capturing the island of Malden. AAF forces, backed by Federation support, are heavily engaged, which should prevent them from deploying a major force to counter this combined operation. Force Recon and MI have identified several troop distributions in the northern region. Based on this intel, we suspect the AAF troops are still operating under peacetime conditions on Malden and are not expecting an engagement; due to being broken down into company and platoon positions, their C2 elements will struggle to perform a hasty reorganisation for manoeuvres.
To add to the confusion, the 101st Airborne has volunteered to perform a feint attack in the north. If all goes as expected, the AAF commanders will begin moving troops to counter this deployment and will leave an opening in the south for the 2nd MEU to perform a naval invasion mostly uncontested.
Once the Marine Corps has secured its beachhead, the 101st Airborne will be redeployed to overwatch positions on Dents Du Midi. When both forces are ready, they will push into the port town together and secure the only deep water port available to AAF troops. The success of this operation is critical as it will cripple the hopes of the AAF for reinforcements and maintain the initiative for US forces on the island.
THIS IS NOT A WW2 OP; WE ARE USING THE STANDARD MODERN PACK
Initial objectives:
- Pathfinders will be deployed prior to the main force to identify and defend an appropriate landing zone for 101st Airborne's main force.
Objectives:
- OBJ 1 - Perform a feint attack in the northern region to confuse AAF troops into deploying away from the proposed Marine beachhead, thus allowing Marine units to land with minimal opposition and allow them relief during the reorganisation process.
- OBJ 2 - Once the 2nd MEU has secured their beachhead, 101st Airborne will move into positions north of the major port town and move in cohesion with marine elements to capture the deep water port.
Additional objectives:
- AOBJ. 1 - The enemy is expected to deploy small mortar or automatic grenade launcher positions against us in the north. They will be hastily deployed, and likely undefended, so small teams mounted on helicopters should be able to out-manoeuvre and neutralise them.
