Operation Lamented Behemoth

Operation Lamented Behemoth

Miranda Planet, Hades Gamma, Anateus System
12th of September 2524, approx. 2 weeks after Operation Fading Nimbus
Situation

Three days after the beginning of Operation Abundant Tenacity, sector 45-AX/2 fell, mainly thanks to your efforts. Soon after, other sectors followed, and four days later, the remainder of the Insurrection on Madrigal surrendered. Command has deemed this offensive a total success, and the fleet is now moving on to the next planet. But not you, however. Your company has suffered casualties and saw the worst part of the war on Madrigal.  You're being pulled back to rest and recover before you can join any new offensive. Orders are for your company to be transferred to the UNSC ''Lancer'' Corvette and move to the planet of Miranda, in the Hades Gamma, Anateus system. UNSC used to have some bases on Miranda, but they were abandoned due to the lack of funding and a proper reason to keep the bases maintained. Your mission is to travel to the planet and re-establish the bases there, after which you will rest for one week before returning to the frontlines. Beware of the native species, the last UNSC Unit there described them as - odd.

Lore
  • 11th September
Your ship breaks off from the convoy and arrives in the Anateus system. After doing a quick scan of the planets, the ship enters high orbit around Miranda and prepares to descend the following day.
  • 12th September
At roughly 1700 hours, you are woken up by your CO to get your basic gear ready and receive the briefing with the rest of your squad. At 1715 hours, the ''Lancer'' begins atmospheric entry just as you are making your way to the briefing hall. At 1718, you are knocked back by the sudden deceleration of the ship. Before you are able to stand up, the power goes out, and the behemoth falls silent. Soon after, the backup generators kick in, and the red light replaces the ambient white light you were used to until now. You barely have time to stand up, and the ship begins to get pounded. Thud after thud, explosion after explosion, deafens your ears. ''Did we crash? Are we taking fire? Is this some sort of sick drill?'' you ask yourself. You stand in the hallway, shocked, in disbelief at the situation you are faced with. All of the fighting and things you've seen, yet this situation left a mark on you, stupefied you. A random soldier sees you in your state of shock and grabs you. With his help, you make your way to an evacuation pod. It seems the ship is really going down. You sit down and strap yourself with the help of others around you. You've been separated from your chalk, but at least you are safe for now. The lifeboat launches itself from the ship, and the pilot begins to call out altitudes and the situation on the intercom. His voice becomes more and more frustrated and panicked. You only distinguish the words ''Brace for impact'' before your pod slams into the ground. You clench your teeth and close your eyes, expecting this to be the last landing you will experience, yet when you look around after the impact, you are surprisingly still alive and doing well, apart from being stranded on an unknown planet in barely any gear and with people you don't know. One thing is for sure: you must survive.

Briefing

SURVIVE! Your ship was shot down over an abandoned planet, and with no friendlies nearby to answer your pleas for help. But that's the bigger picture, let's concern ourselves with more urgent matters. All the survivors are most likely dead or separated somewhere on the map. You must work together with the people next to you and rendezvous with the others while overcoming and identifying what and who shot you down. Stock up on ammo, gather what resources you can and secure ways of communication and navigation. Heading to the ship's wreckage would be a good idea. Other people will most likely head there, too. Find the others, and then you can think about the bigger picture.

AFTER YOU GET TO THE SHIP, YOU WILL HAVE ACCESS TO ARSENALS TO QUICKLY MAKE A LOADOUT, KEEP IT ROLE-BASED

Mission Objectives
  • I. Survive
At any cost, you must survive. Coordinate with friendlies around you, survive, adapt and win.
  • II. Regroup at the ship
The ''Lancer'' went down somewhere nearby. Look for smoke columns, pieces of debris or other things that might indicate where the ship crashed. Your navigation skills will come in handy for this objective. Take some time to identify your surroundings, figure out where you're meant to go, and don't just guess (or do and get consumed by the natives, lol). The ship most likely still has some supplies lying around, and there may even be survivors there already. It seems like the logical choice to regroup there.
  • III. Establish communication with other units
In order to get off this damned rock, you must establish communication with other ships from the convoy and let them know about your situation. You will need to find a radio tower or a long-range transmitter and broadcast an emergency message on CHANNEL 40.
  • IV. Rescue friendly marines(AI)
There may be other friendly marines running around the AO. If you can, find them and rescue them. Who knows, their help might come in handy with defending things, attacking them or maybe even getting some intel. The agreed emergency broadcast frequency for short-range radios is 121.15, calls for help may appear there or can be transmitted there should you need them.
