Operation Moral Fiber II 21st of May, 2010
Kunduz River, Afghanistan, FOB Ripley
Situation
This mission happens during the war in Afghanistan and is meant to portray Australia's involvement during the war. Some realism elements were eliminated for mission-making purposes. This mission is also a continuation of Moral Fiber I. The 2009 Kunduz airstrike took place on Friday 4 September 2009 at roughly 2:30 am local time, 7 km southwest of Kunduz City, Kunduz province in northern Afghanistan, near the hamlets of Omar Kheil by the border of the Chahar Dara and Ali Abad districts. Responding to a call by German forces, an American F-15E fighter jet struck two fuel tankers captured by Taliban insurgents, killing over 90 civilians in the attack. This event painted the coalition forces as the evil factor for the local civilian population. As a consequence, Taliban activity and numbers in the Kunduz area increased, and their attacks became more ruthless, agressive and reckless. In April, 2010, your unit was redeployed to FOB Ripley, in the Kunduz River area to bring order to chaos and tackle the newly formed resistance. On your first combat patrol you succesfully assaulted two enemy compounds and recovered INTEL regarding a local IED Factory, which we now intend to eliminate.
Mission Briefing
Your mission objective remains - destabilize the Taliban grip on the region to the best of your abilities, while avoiding civilian casualties and repairing relations with the locals. HQ wants you to raid the IED Factory uncovered by the documents you found. It's currently in the middle of Maghdoot Khel, so you have a long road ahead of you. The section of the road you cleared previously has been marked for convenience. You have been provided with MRAPs for transportation on ground, along with an UH-60 armed helicopter for logistics, scouting and air transportation, should you need to get somewhere fast and limited CAS. BE ADVISED, the enemy is well known for planting IEDs and other explosives on roads, houses and so on, as you've previously experience. Step with caution and focus your efforts on defusing these explosives when you see them. Fire support (CAS/mortars/etc.) is available and can be requested only when civilians are not endangered by the call. Resupply is available VIA the UH-60, both for infantry and vehicles (the heli is a rearm vehicle).
ROE is as follows : You may open fire on any non-coalition forces that are armed, beware of the local police however. You may not take any actions that further endanger civilian life, verify your shots, the enemy is mixed with the civilians.
Reinsertion will be done VIA helicopter
Threat report
You will face the Taliban. You will fight an unconventional force, expect IEDs and dirty strikes. Taliban do not have any armored vehicles, expect tehnicals at most. The enemy is dressed similarly to civilians, exercise caution. In terms of weaponry, basic old soviet equipment, no body armor. While technologically inferior, the enemy outnumbers you.
Mission objectives
- Destabilize the Taliban
HQ does not expect you to drive the enemy out of the region, but you are to weaken their grip as much as possible. Execute another combat patrol. Destroy ammo caches, vehicles, simply eliminate garrisons or befriend the locals. The only lead we have now is the IED Factory. Raid it and hopefully that leads us to more similar locations. If you capture any Taliban, exfiltrate them back to base and they will be interrogated. Any intel you find will most likely be in Arabic, it will take time to decipher it, meaning that you will need to also bring it back to base. - Defuse any explosives
We are looking into making this region safer for the coalition and civilians. When you inevitably encounter any makeshift explosives, you are to defuse them. Your platoon has been granted as many mine detectors as you need. It's recommended that you read the description of the IEDD Notebook mod (seriously, have a read through it, especially if you want to play EOD). - Raid the IED Factory
In the center of Maghdoot Khel, the Taliban have transformed a marketplace into an IED Factory. HQ wants you to capture the location, sweep it for intel, and then detonate it from a safe distance. Be mindful of the surrounding buildings, do your best to limit destruction to only enemy equipment. Before you proceed with the detonation you must evacuate any civilians in the area. HQ advises you exercise extreme caution when breaching the factory, avoid missfires that could potentially lead to unwanted explosions.
