August the 16th, 2029, a few hours after Operation Wet Work
Negades Bay, USS Khe Sanh
Situation
With the cold war approaching its end, Britain began losing their hold over colonies, and the Republic of Altis and Stratis was no exception, having gained independence prior to the beginning of the 21st century. The early 2010s would see a decline in the young republic's economy, as well as political divisions rise between the nation's populace. Tensions reached their boiling point when a group of rogue army officers, united by Colonel Georgious Akhanteros carried out a coup d'état in 2026, under the pretext of removing corrupt civilian leaders. This act of rebellion was badly-received. Remnants of the civilian leadership and deserters from the army picked up arms and formed the Loyalists, directly opposing Akhanteros and his junta. This uprising degenerated into a full-blown civil war, causing utter devastation to the country, with Altians turning on each other and entire towns being reduced to ruins as a result of heavy fighting.
Early this morning, at 0430 hours, a US led invasion force landed on Altis, responding to international pleas made by the Loyalists, under the pretext of removing the corrupt regime of Akhanteros and punishing the war criminals hiding in the AAF's ranks. The initial plan was for the Loyalists to hold a peninsula to the south, allowing US forces to land and stage further assaults from there. Unfortunately, our allies could not hold against the AAF counter-attack, and with our invasion already in motion, high command shit-canned the original plan and made a new one on the spot. The effectiveness of that decision is reflected by our current tactical position. US troops managed to take the major towns of Neochori, Agios Dionysios, Therisa and the AAC Airfield, Zaros and Kore, but they were unable to accomplish any of the taskforce's initial goals (taking the main airfield, Kavala, Pyrgos and Sofia). The attack on Kavala was botched as we never expected to deal with the number of units present there. This, along with heavy armored resistance near Athira and the International Airport, has forced us on the back-foot, with no choice but to hold onto the ground we currently have and wait for reinforcements. With a stalemate on the front, and a dangerous number of enemies held up in Kavala, high command has come up with the bold plan to use MARSOC to disrupt the enemy from behind their lines. This is where you come in.
Mission Briefing
The commander's intent is for your platoon to deploy from the USS Khe Sanh into the Oreokastro-Kore area and execute fast, surgical strikes on enemy garrisons and other POIs, forcing the enemy to fall back from the frontlines, and giving our main units the chance to be aggressive. If your disruption operation goes well, we expect to hold the ground from Kore to Oreokastro, cutting Kavala off from reinforcements and allowing us to focus on only one front.
When ready, you will board the UH-1Y helicopters stationed on the USS Khe Sanh and launch swift raids on the mainland. Your first objective will be Hotel 1, where HUMINT places senior AAF members that were part of the Massacre of Galati. You are to capture them, and bring them back for interrogation. Afterwards, you will attack objectives Charlie 1 through 6, where you are to eliminate the garrison force there and destroy any supplies you find. By the time this is done, the enemy forces should be in disarray, allowing you to deliver the killing blow, and that is taking Oreokastro and the castle. If you succeed in those objectives, US forces near Kore will launch their clean-up attack, seizing the ground between Oreokastro and them. If time allows it, you will also raid Ammolofi Airfield, to the north of Abdera.
The commander's intent is for your platoon to RAID enemy positions. This means you are to move on each location with your full force, swiftly eliminate everyone there and anything of value, then exfiltrate before the enemy can overwhelm you. Make good use of the helicopters, they allow you to be flexible. You can rely on the helicopters for CAS, but also have access to 155mm arty, and Cruise missiles from the USS Massachusetts. Reinsertion and resupply will be handled by the helicopters, bear in mind that each squad is assigned their own helicopter (if you need to resupply your full platoon you can always return to the Khe Sanh).
Threat Report
We are facing a large and experienced army, but the odds favour us given our technological superiority and the losses the AAF suffered during its war with the Loyalists. INTEL reports the presence of armored assets in your AO, along with AAF regulars. Expect M113s, LAV-25s, BTRs, BMPs, M60 and the Soviet T series tanks. In terms of air assets, the enemy can deploy helicopters from Galati and Ammolofi Airfield. HUMINT suggests we shot down most enemy fast-movers during the first hours of the invasion. You can expect the enemy to have some light AA around the main towns in your AO (Syrta, Oreokastro, etc.), but nothing that cannot be handled. Beyond Galati and to the East, you can expect strong AA defenses, avoid flying there.
Mission Objectives
- Capture war criminals
Located in the hamlet of Fotia, designated Hotel 1, your objective is to capture the 4 war criminals stationed there. Their names are Kyros Kalogeros, Thanos Gavras, Hektor Bougas and Alexis Georgiou. You can recognize them by their green berets. If they refuse to surrender and cannot be subdued, you are authorized to eliminate them, but must confirm their ID, and bring back their body. Recon has identified a very light garrison at this objectives, we believe you can insert directly on the premises. Be mindful of reinforcements.
- Disrupt enemy operations
This means clearing Charlie 1->6. We have not had time to scout the objectives, but your orders remain. Do your own recon if you wish, move in with your full force, overwhelm and eliminate the enemy. If you find any supplies (ammo, fuel, food, etc.), destroy them and then exfiltrate before the AAF has time to react. Make good use of the helicopters and their mobility.
- Seize Oreokastro
The town is well known as a symbol of resistance for the Loyalists, and attacking the AAF there would demoralize their troops. Expect a large garrison, most likely dug in, but starved of reinforcements, should you succeed in Charlie 1->6. HUMINT signalled a minefield somewhere to the SE of the town, in the valley. Additionally, recon has identified a mortar emplacement in the Castle, to the North. It is advised you clear that first. Remember, you are here to seize the town, not to hold it, clear it out and then exfil. You are not equipped for a prolonged defence, and we cannot reinforce you. Be mindful of the civilians, we are here to set an example on how warfare should be done. No excuses this time.
- Raid the Ammolofi Airfield
If the time allows it, you are authorized to conduct a raid on the airfield. Infiltrate, sweep the area as you see fit, destroy as much of the airbase as you can (avoid using the helicopters unless you absolutely must - zeus note), and then return to the Khe Sanh. INTEL reports an FOB to the NE, a small camp to the SW, and perimeter patrols. Expect AA defenses. Avoid spending too much time in combat, the likelihood of enemy QRFs is high.
