Southern Angola
Background information
The civil war in Angola until 1975 was a protracted conflict driven by decolonization and regional rivalries. Portugal's departure from Angola in 1974 created a power vacuum, leading to a struggle for control among the MPLA, FNLA, and UNITA factions. South Africa which was at the time trying to supress an independence movement in Namibia sent troops to Angola in late 1975 to stop aid coming from the north (they also didn’t like commies so yeah). Their intervention on behalf of UNITA and the FNLA (the somewhat good guys) further intensified the conflict, seeking to prevent MPLA (the commies) dominance. The MPLA received significant support from the Soviet Union and Cuba, which sent troops to bolster their efforts, ultimately helping the MPLA secure control of Angola and declare independence in November 1975.
Briefing
Since its declaration of independence a few months ago Angola has been increasingly sending raiding parties across the border to assist the rebels in Namibia that we are currently trying to “peacefully” supress. We were forced to intervene and move into southern Angola to stop the aid from arriving to the rebels and stop the spread of communism (for good PR). Only recently we found out from our US collages that the Cubans have started supporting the MPLA in a form of heavy weapons, trainees and military attaches. While its bad news that the enemy will now be able to deploy tanks and possibly even aircraft it gives us a rare opportunity. If we do manage to capture Cuban personnel that officially is not in the country we can convince the UN into assisting us at least in Angola. Currently the UN has deployed small but strong forces near the frontlines to try to stop local genocides committed mainly be MPLA. You will be ordered to capture the town of Shwasana which hosts Cuban military attaches and trainers. You are to hold the town until friendly units arrive to help you evacuate.
Tasks
Seize the town of Shwasana - You are to fly behind the current frontlines, capture the town and apprehend the Cuban personnel. The town of Shwasana also holds a propaganda office used by the MPLA. You are also ordered to seize its personnel. Search and Destroy local artillery – Intel provided by US suggests that the MPLA has already multiple SPGs and GRADs in their possession, we know that they are in the area of Shwasana. The enemy will use their artillery to hamper the progress of the ground units that will try to get to you. Hold Shwasana - Lay ambushes, raid MPLAs staging points or just dig in and wait until friendly units arrive. It's up to your PL to decide.
