August 16th 2029,
The Republic of Altis and Stratis
Situation
This is a continuation of Operation Breaking Even
With the cold war approaching its end, Britain began losing their hold over colonies, and the Republic of Altis and Stratis was no exception, having gained independence prior to the beginning of the 21st century. The early 2010s would see a decline in the young republic's economy, as well as political divisions rise between the nation's populace.
Tensions reached their boiling point when a group of rogue army officers, united by Colonel Georgious Akhanteros carried out a coup d'état in 2026, under the pretext of removing corrupt civilian leaders. This act of rebellion was badly-received. Remnants of the civilian leadership and deserters from the army picked up arms and formed the Loyalists, directly opposing Akhanteros and his junta. This uprising degenerated into a full-blown civil war, causing utter devastation to the country, with Altians turning on each other and entire towns being reduced to ruins as a result of heavy fighting.
It is now 2029, and the tides have turned in the favour of the AAF, ever since Operation Breaking Even. Loyalist forces were gradually pushed West, to the town of Kavala. After a few weeks of heavy fighting, on the 15th of August, taking advantage of the confusion created by urban warfare, most enemies slipped out of Kavala in speedboats. Unbeknownst to us, the fleeing forces occupied a small peninsula South of Zaros and have set-up heavy defences.
Following the tragic loss of human life caused by both sides in Operation Breaking Even, a formal NATO investigation was launched. While results were inconclusive, most fingers were pointed at the AAF. Since then command has feared a direct NATO intervention, however our strong grip on the island wouldn't allow it.
With most of our forces stuck in Kavala, we have reason to believe the Loyalists have taken over the peninsula in preparation for a NATO invasion, presumably in order to provide NATO with a beach head from which to stage further offensives. On the 16th of August, at 0247 hours, high command's suspicions were confirmed when a US fleet was picked up by radar heading towards Altis at full speed. Our forces have been put on high alert, however our weak navy is no match for a direct confrontation and most troops are either stuck in Kavala or combat ineffective. With most options exhausted, the elite AAF Special Forces Group has been ordered to prepare for action.
This mission is heavily inspired by Arma3 lore, following an alternate timeline.
Mission Briefing
The Loyalists have turned the peninsula into a fortress, and it seems they have no intention to give or take anymore ground. Their solid Anti-Air defenses rule out an aerial offensive, and the only land route has been mined heavily. As such, it has been decided to send you in from the sea, which we for now control. The goal of this operation is to eliminate all Loyalist forces on the peninsula and force their surrender, thus eliminating the risk of an invasion. Force recon has identified multiple enemy outposts in the area that need to be cleared. In addition to this, our SAM systems were captured and are now being used against us, as the enemy has managed to shoot one of our transports down. This means you will have to recapture the SAMs and, if possible, find our pilots.
Command has decided to split this operation in three Phases. Phase one will oversee your successful infiltration of the peninsula. We intend to deploy your platoon from the ANF Hydra, a submarine loitering to the SW of your AO, using small submersibles to transport your team ashore. Unfortunately the enemy has patrols around the coast, so an underwater approach is the only possible option. Some hundred meters off the coast you will abandon your SDVs and sneak to shore in your wetsuits. Your first objective will be to seize the lighthouse and recapture the Radar system that currently set up there, effectively blinding the SAMs and opening up our aerial corridor. Upon completion of this task we will deliver supplies to you so you can switch into proper gear.
The second phase has two objectives in mind. First of all, we intend to eliminate the enemy leadership, which is stationed at FOB Basilisk, one of our bases, but now in Loyalist control. The second objective is to capture the SAM systems stationed just W of the FOB, in a castle's ruins. With this achieved the enemy will be without proper leaders and we our AA defence grid will be back up.
In Phase three, you will mop up any Loyalist resistance from the peninsula, until they all perish or surrender. HQ expects you head West, then South, clearing the strongpoints marked on map, and those that you happen to run into. In case of enemy surrender, you are to accept any prisoners and ensure their safe evacuation, for which we will have birds on stand-by.
If the inevitable happens, and a NATO invasion is launched, your objective will be to inflict as much damage as possible from behind enemy lines, and resort to guerrilla warfare. There are too many variables to consider, but further orders will be transmitted in this scenario.
NOTE!
Soldiers will have to make 2 loadouts in the arsenal - One of them will be their basic role loadout. The second one will be the wetsuit loadout, which should contain - a wetsuit (no shit), a rebreather (or you will drown), a backpack( unless you can survive on 2 bandages and 1 mag), diving goggles and either an underwater rifle or a normal weapon. Pack light, have enough ammo and meds to last you for a firefight or two. You can dive and surface with the submersible using X and Z, do note that it comes with a powerful periscope. After Phase one you will switch into your normal loadout.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BOTH LOADOUTS SAVED AND READY BEFORE THE OP STARTS, YOU WILL NOT HAVE TIME TO MAKE A NEW LOADOUT DURING THE OPERATION. LEADERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ENSURING LOUDOUTS ARE IN ORDER. Bring NVGs.
You will have no support during the first phase, do not botch the assault or you will be stuck without proper gear behind enemy lines. After the radar is disabled, we will start airlifting weaponry and supplies. You can also call in resupply as you see fit. Limited CAS and artillery are available and can be called in by Platoon Leadership.
Threat Report
The Loyalists managed to pull out of Kavala with their weaponry and supplies. You will be fighting more or less the same enemy you did in Operation Breaking Even - a combination of old cold-war equipment, body armour, some armoured vehicles. War has done its part, and we believe that only the elite, hard-core radical fighters among the Loyalists managed to survive these long years of fighting. Expect a more experienced enemy that knows how to fight, unlike those you encountered in 2026. You are outnumbered, the enemy has no air assets, we believe they have captured some of our armed vehicles.
Mission Objectives - TLDR below
- Capture the Lighthouse
Self-explanatory, seize and hold the lighthouse and its adjacent compounds. HQ expects a small garrison force here. Scouts report that the enemy has occupied Cape Makrinos and Pyrgi too. It is advised you split up and hit all three locations at once, do not give the enemy time to reinforce the lighthouse or react to your movements. Expect enemy reinforcements from the north, beware of the elevated position to the NW, the loyalists will most likely exploit that. Remember to disable the radar system as soon as possible, look for a laptop and disable it from there. The moment that is done you can call in supplies.
- Eliminate Loyalist leadership
Intel suggests the presence of two officers at FOB Basilisk. You are looking for Kael Mavros, a veteran of the Galati offensive, and Hektor Anastas, a senior commander of the old Altian government. You will have to retrieve their dog tags to confirm the kills. We expect FOB Basilisk to be strongly defended, with perimeter patrols and OPs surrounding the base. Beware of reinforcements that could flank through the forests to the W, or use the low grounds surrounding the FOB. Command expects the officers to flee if given the chance, do not allow this to happen.
- Capture the SAM systems
Located on a castle's ruins just W of FOB Basilisk, the enemy has turned our SAMs against us. Normally we would just jam them and destroy them, but HQ needs the pieces recaptured intact and put back into use, otherwise we risk leaving a big gap in our defences. Same as the radar, look for a laptop to hack into. The loyalists will most likely use the castle's ruins as shooting positions, beware of the hills to the South. Just as the FOB, the castle sits on top of a hill, surrounded by low-ground to the N, E and W, that the defenders cannot see. You can either exploit that or fight your way from the South.
- Root remaining Loyalists
Part of Phase three, you will proceed West and sweep South from the SAMs. We expect any Loyalists that haven't surrendered yet to make a last stand in this part of the peninsula. Notable positions are the old Farm, to the north of Sfaka, Sfaka itself -a small hamlet- and the church near Agios Kosmas. Remember to bring any surrendering loyalists into custody.
- Rescue downed pilots
A C-130 was shot down while flying over the peninsula. The crew was forced to do an emergency landing in the water, which they survived. Unfortunately, the loyalists got to them before our S&R. We have no INTEL on their position, they could be held anywhere on the peninsula. While executing your main tasks, keep your eyes peeled for any useful information, and be considerate of what buildings you decide to level.
DO NOTE, that blowing up the pilots and patching them up later DOES NOT WORK.
TL;DR - Two loadouts, one with underwater stuff, the other normal. Take the radar, then the leadership and the SAMs, then clear as normal. If NATO invades, pray and survive(optional).
Extra notes/tips - repeated
