Ruha Airbase, Finland
World situation:
The year is 2026. Finland and Sweden have recently joined NATO. To celebrate the arrival of their newest members, but also to test their operational capabilities NATO Command decided to organize exercise Baltic Rush near Stockholm, involving multiple countries and their branches. To the East of the exercise location, a joint Polish-USMC-Norwegian-Czech force, codenamed Aegis, is tasked with manning/garrisoning an airfield in Ruha region, Finland, and executing long distance aerial operations.
1st of July 2026- Exercise Baltic Rush begins, and proceeds as planned. Aegis (you) starts launching aircraft from Ruha to participate in the exercise.
3rd of July 2026, 2330 hours - Reports of Russian advances fill the radio nets. All are dismissed as part of the exercise.
3rd of July 2350 hours - Reports are reconfirmed as accurate, Russian invasion is confirmed by NATO Command. Plans to hold against the attack and reinforce the Baltic front are made.
4th of July 2000 hours - Ruha airbase, currently manned by TF Aegis is given the following order - ''Begin evacuation of all non-essential personnel. Defend the airbase at all costs, it must not fall to the Russians. Finnish forces cannot reinforce your position, stretched too thin. Swedish reinforcements are 7 hours away, you are on your own until then.''
Tactical situation:
TF Aegis will have to hold the airbase against the Russian attack. You will only have to worry about the airfield's immediate perimeter. Team Gold is stationed in Korvenoja, holding the town and setting up an ambush along the MSR, protecting your left flank. Team Silver is getting ready to execute guerilla warfare in the forest to your immediate right flank. Team Copper is set up in Metsala office to delay the enemy while you're getting ready. If any of the Teams has to fall back, you will be notified, and you will have a new area to defend. Team Gold's and Silver's areas are designated as a no fire zone. There are no other friendly aircraft in the region, excluding the C-130s getting ready to evacuate and your Air Wing.
Mission briefing:
Your task will be to hold the airfield and prevent it from falling into Russian hands. Squads from multiple countries will have to cooperate and form a coherent whole. If you are overwhelmed, you are permitted to fall back in the forest to the South, reorganize and launch a counter-attack, but this manoeuvre will cut you off from any supplies or vehicles at the airfield itself. YOU MUST NOT fall back until the C-130 aircraft getting ready to evacuate has taken off. You must also keep any debris/vehicles/fortifications off the taxiways and the runway. The defense plan is split into three lines of defense. The outermost and first one is stretched thin at the edges of the airfield. When this one falls you will retreat to the second line, between the runway and the taxiway. The last line of defense will be at the hangars. This line must not fall. The 1st and 3rd defense lines already have basic fortifications, you should add your own where possible. There is a Motorpool storing all of our vehicles and equipment, you have unrestricted access to it. Your defense will be helped by an F-18 and an F-22 from the USAF. They will most likely have to land/take off under small arms fire as this airfield is the only one for miles to come. After the Russian attack stops, you will be tasked with recapturing lost ground to the North and West to make room for Swedish reinforcements. Keep in mind you only have access to the supplies at the airfield, you will need to set up ammo stashes further up the line and utilize similar ideas to ensure your survival.
Threat report:
We are expecting a Russian Motorized element to try and assault the airfield. INTEL suggests it's being reinforced by an Air Wing of helicopters, attack and fighter aircraft. We also expect a Tank Platoon to join the assault. In the first attacks you should mainly expect infantry and some lightly armored vehicles. If the situation changes you will be notified.
Mission Objectives:
- OBJ 1 - Hold the airfield at all costs Ruha airfield cannot land in the hands of the Russians. It will give them a big advantage in the war. If the airfield falls, you will give your best shot to recapture it and hold it until the Swedish arrive or the Russians give up.
- OBJ 2 - Cover the C-130's evacuation A C-130 is currently fueling up to evacuate all non-essential personnel and other important equipment. It needs at least half an hour to get ready, meaning that you will have to fight tooth and nail to hold a corridor open. This goes for both the ground and air units.
- OBJ 3 - Recapture lost ground In the best case scenario where you manage to hold off long enough for the Russian Army to cease their attack, you will launch a counter-offensive and recapture locations around the airfield. (edited)
